Sir Robert McAlpine has seen its revenue top £1bn and pre-tax profit double in the year to 31 October 2019. The contractor announced it made a pre-tax profit of £14.5m in 2019, up from £7.4m the previous year. It said turnover broke the £1bn mark, almost a quarter of a billion more than its 2018 result of £788m. The cash balance the contractor reported at year end was £94m “with no debt”.

The results are for the period “just ahead of the challenging conditions caused by COVID-19”, which the firm said had impacted performance. The contractor closed all of its sites as the UK went into a nationwide lockdown in March. It then furloughed half of its staff “to sustain the cashflow and liquidity of the business”.
